MISSION STATEMENT
 
     
 
To protect, conserve and promote sustainable development of the forests, conserve wildlife and to promote tree based farming to conserve soil and water on agricultural lands.
 
     
 
VISION STATEMENT
 
     
 
a.

To see that the Forest cover of the state is protected, conserved and increased.

b.

To see that the “Bio mass need” of the people is met on a sustained basis.

c.

To see that conservation becomes “a way of life”.

 
     
  The Karnataka Forest Department is the agency in the administrative structure of the State Government for planning, promotion, coordination and in overseeing of the implementation of various forestry programmes/schemes. The charter of commitment of the Karnataka Forest Department to the general public is as under:

To Conserve forests, wildlife and the bio- diversity therein.

To mitigate pollutionary effects.

To afforest and regenerate degraded areas.

To protect environment and to promote sustainable development.

To conserve and preserve Wetland ecosystems.

To meet the biomass requirement of forest dependant communities.

By managing forests and wildlife on the basis of approved working and management plan.

By protecting the Forests against illicit felling, fire and encroachment.

By initiating Wild life conservation programmes as per the statute.

By ensuring people's participation in protection of forests by creating grass root institutions (VFC/EDC)
e.
By taking site specific action to mitigate human animal conflict.
f.
By meeting biomass requirement of forest dependant communities, farmers and artisans by promoting social forestry, agro forestry and extension forestry.
g.
By organising Nature camps, nature trails and treks for school and college students/wild-life enthusiasts.
h.
By producing publicity materials e.g. printing brochures, pamphlets and periodicals etc.

By creating opportunities and providing incentives to people, staffs and officers.

By scientific Eco-regeneration methods.

By promoting environmental and forestry research, extension, education and training.

By Dissemination of environmental information among all Sections of the country's population.

Actively promote people's participation, especially women, through Joint Forest Management.

A concept of Forest Development Agency (FDA) is being implemented to take up rural development works in the forest-fringe villages as a pilot project in the selected territorial/wildlife divisions in all States/UTs, which have adopted Joint Forest Management Resolution.

Initiating measures including legislative measures for environmental protection and conservation.

Promoting environmental protection and conservation through research and development and other programmes including field surveys, studies, etc,

Management of natural resources in order to protect livelihood and productivity.
4.
Continuation of on-going programmes on water and soil conservation.
 
     
 
STATEMENT OF SERVICES PROVIDED
 
     
  I. Our Services are to support :—  
 
1.

Scientific management and conservation of biodiversity.

2.

Conservation of forests to allow natural ecological processes.

3.

Provide livelihood support system to marginal communities.

4.

Development and protection of geo morphological features for recreation.

5.

Provide timber, fuel wood and fodder to people.

6.

Supply of raw material to artisans to promote local wisdom.

7.

Acts as nodal agency on dissemination of scientific data on forests.

8.
Encouraging scientific communities to take research activities in forest area.
9.
Promote Programmes, which attempt in arriving at appropriate solutions to environmental problems and to regenerate environmental natural resources.
10.
Programmes for improving the quality of life of the people living below the poverty line.
11.

Voluntary agencies, NGOs, universities and research institutions for environmental research, eco-development, conservation, environmental education and awareness, dissemination of environmental information.

12.
Research in the areas of environmental sciences and technology to mitigate problems arising from degradation of environment.
13.
Afforestation, soil conservation, land use planning, preservation of flora and fauna, control of air, water and soil pollution, regeneration of degraded ecosystems, action plans to control pollution in critically polluted areas of the state through Urban Forestry and Lake developments.
14.

Augment the requisite manpower, collection, collation and dissemination of environmental information and creation of environmental awareness at the state level.

15.
Imparting of In-house training to the departmental personnel.
16.
Transparency in administration.
 
     
  II. Provision for Annual Review of the Charter:—  
 
a.

The Services provided by the Department as per the charter will be reviewed annually.

b.

The timely redressal of public grievances are being monitored by the Public Grievance Officer.

c.

Grievances received in the Department and their follow-up are proposed to be reviewed annually by the Public Grievance Cell.

d.

Steps are being undertaken to take remedial measures for quick disposal of complaints, specifically on those which are of repetitive nature.

 
     
  III. Details of Grievance Redressal Mechanism:—  
 
a.
A Grievances Cell has been constituted to attend to the complaints of public regarding environmental problems as well as problems related to forests & wildlife. Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance) has been nominated as Public Grievance Officer of the Department.
b.
Public Grievance Officer and other officers of the level of Chief Conservator of Forests and above will be available on every Wednesdays from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM, to receive and hear grievances of the public.
c.
Visitors to our office will be treated with courtesy and heard patiently to facilitate solving their problems.
d.
In case of non-fulfillment of the commitments, the users should approach the following officer:

To imbibe the spirit of conservation of natural resources and respect for the laws of nature.
c.
To honour and abide by the Rules and Regulations framed by the Government towards protection of environment, flora and fauna.

To share information with other citizens in order to encourage sustainable development and improvement of habitat.
e.
To offer suggestions to streamline the functioning of the existing institutions, promote accountability and responsibility.
f.
